The big
celebration: Heather's mom, Flo, will turn 100 on September 18.
They just returned from the "unofficial" official
celebration at Hilton Head SC where the family gathered for the
big event. They rented a big house and had everyone together at
the beach for a week--a real family milestone. Flo is still
living with David & Heather. David's mom had a stroke in
January. David became the caretaker as the only living child,
and as a result, left his job early March to handle the care
issues. Heather is planning to retire after 28 years (1
year in Cleveland and 27 years in Georgia) of teaching/paraprofessional
work. David says she has been amazing, nurturing many
hundreds of young kids in their early school experience,
primarily kindergarten. When Heather retires she hopes to devote
some time to some fun pursuits, including getting involved
(again) as a volunteer with a dog rescue organization. David plans on
starting a business from home
this fall using his photography background and graphic design
skills--with the idea that working from home will allow him
some flexibility
to deal with his mom's care. 10/08
Heather will be
leaving on an Eastern European trip with three girlfriends in
October that will include a Danube riverboat cruise. Her
Mom is still residing with them and is great - she was 101 on
Sept. 18th. David's Mom lives in an assisted living
residence nearby and requires a great deal of care, as she is
wheelchair bound. David & Heather renew their
bodies(?) and spirits when they make their annual migration to
Sanibel Island every November - can't wait!

continues working as a permanent sub for Deer Park's intermediate school, grades 3- 5. Each day is different and challenges are many,
but it is wonderful to go home without homework. Fred is
really content as a retiree & always has a project. He
can't figure how new retirees can say they are bored, as he never
is. Their oldest son, wife and four grandchildren (Amanda, Kyle,
Cara, & Jason) live in the Rochester
area. Daughter lives in Brooklyn but plans to relocate back
to Long Island soon. Youngest son Jonathan & wife have
moved to St. Louis this past year. Fred & Christie
continue to enjoy traveling. With the "kids"
far away, Mom & Dad Carrier (and brother & sister) in
FL much of their traveling is to upstate NY, FL, west
coast, and to St. Louis. A caribbean cruise & trip to Las
Vegas were specially planned for fun this past year. Christie
& Fred have lived in
Deer Park
and on
Long Island
for almost 36 years. The proximity to the NYC theater,
opera and culture remain a big plus. The big challenge is
still, where to go next & what to do in the future???
